UK Spouse Visa Consultant in Gurgaon — Reunite with Your Partner in the UK

New Zealand is one of the most liveable countries in the world — clean, safe, welcoming, and full of opportunities. For Indian couples separated by distance, the New Zealand Spouse Visa offers a genuine pathway to reunite, build a life together, and eventually settle permanently in one of the world's most sought-after destinations."),

The New Zealand Spouse Visa — officially called the New Zealand Partner Visa under Immigration New Zealand (INZ) rules — allows the spouse, de facto partner, or civil union partner of a New Zealand citizen, resident, or qualifying visa holder to move to New Zealand, live together as a family, and in most cases, work freely with open work rights.

At JR Immigration Consultants, our New Zealand Spouse Visa Consultants have guided hundreds of Indian couples through every stage of this process — from eligibility assessment and relationship evidence building to INZ application submission, medical coordination, and pre-departure support.

What is a New Zealand Spouse Visa?

In New Zealand, there is no visa officially titled 'Spouse Visa'. What Indian applicants commonly refer to as the New Zealand Spouse Visa is formally known as the New Zealand Partner Visa — a family-based immigration pathway managed by Immigration New Zealand (INZ) under its partnership category.

This visa allows individuals in a genuine and stable relationship with a New Zealand citizen, resident, or qualifying visa holder to live in New Zealand. It covers legally married spouses, de facto partners (couples living together), and civil union partners — all equally. The word 'spouse' in common usage refers to all these relationship types, and this page uses both terms interchangeably.

Types of New Zealand Spouse Visa – Which One Applies to You?

There is no single "New Zealand Spouse Visa." Immigration New Zealand offers different partnership visa pathways depending on your partner's immigration status. Choosing the correct category is essential before applying.

Partner of a New Zealander Resident Visa

This is the most common pathway for Indian applicants whose spouse or partner is a New Zealand citizen or resident.

  • Living together in a genuine and stable relationship for at least 12 months before applying.
  • If your partner is an NZ citizen and you've lived together overseas for 5+ years, you may qualify for a Permanent Resident Visa directly.
  • After holding a Resident Visa for 2 continuous years, you may apply for a Permanent Resident Visa.
  • Dependent children aged 24 years or younger may be included without an additional INZ application fee.

Partner of a New Zealander Work Visa

If your partner holds an eligible New Zealand work visa (such as an Accredited Employer Work Visa or Post Study Work Visa), you may qualify for a partnership work visa.

  • Open work rights.
  • Work for any employer in New Zealand.
  • Usually valid for the same period as your partner's work visa.
  • Can normally be renewed if your partner renews their visa.
  • Does not directly lead to residence but may support future residence pathways.

Partner of a New Zealander Visitor Visa

If your partner is in New Zealand on a visitor visa, or you wish to join them while another partnership application is being processed, this visa may be appropriate.

  • Allows temporary stay in New Zealand.
  • Usually does not include work rights.

Partner of a Student Visa Holder

If your partner is studying in New Zealand, you may qualify under the partnership category.

Eligibility depends on:

  • Your partner's course level.
  • The qualification they are studying.
  • Current Immigration New Zealand policy.

Eligibility for a New Zealand Spouse Visa

As your New Zealand Spouse Visa Consultant, our first step is a thorough eligibility assessment. Here are all the requirements set by Immigration New Zealand that you must meet:

Applicant Eligibility

  • You must be 18 years of age or older — or 16/17 with written consent from your parents or guardians
  • You must be in a genuine, stable, and ongoing partnership with your New Zealand sponsor
  • You must not be a close relative of your partner
  • You and your partner must have met each other in person before applying
  • You must meet INZ's health requirements — a medical examination and chest X-ray are mandatory
  • You must meet INZ's character requirements — a Police Clearance Certificate from every country where you have lived for 12+ months in the last 10 years
  • If applying for the Resident Visa, you must have been living together with your partner for at least 12 months

Partner's Eligibility

  • Your partner must be a New Zealand citizen, or hold a New Zealand Residence Visa, or hold a qualifying work or student visa
  • Your partner must be 18 or older (or 16/17 with parental consent)
  • Your partner must meet INZ character requirements — serious convictions may disqualify them from sponsoring you
  • If your partner's NZ residency is based on their Australian citizenship or Australian PR, they must be living in New Zealand
  • Your partner must not have sponsored a previous partner for New Zealand residence within the last 5 years (except in exceptional circumstances)
  • Your partner must complete and submit a Partnership Support Form (INZ 1178) as part of your application

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a New Zealand Spouse Visa and a New Zealand Partner Visa?
They are the same thing. Immigration New Zealand uses the official term 'Partner Visa' or 'Partner of a New Zealander Visa.' However, most Indian applicants search for it as a 'New Zealand Spouse Visa.' Whether you are married, in a civil union, or in a de facto relationship, the visa pathway is the same. All three relationship types are recognised equally by INZ.
My partner is on an Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) in New Zealand. Can I apply for a New Zealand Spouse Visa?
Yes. If your partner holds an AEWV or another qualifying work visa, you can apply for a Partner of a Worker Work Visa. Since October 2024, this visa can now be granted for up to 3 years (increased from 2 years) for couples who have been living together for at least 12 months. You will have open work rights — you can work for any employer in New Zealand.
We have been living apart (long-distance relationship). Can I still apply for a New Zealand Spouse Visa from India?
Yes, but you will need to work harder on your evidence. INZ requires proof of a genuine and stable relationship. For long-distance couples, this means strong communication records, evidence of regular visits, financial support transfers, shared future plans, and compelling statutory declarations. We help long-distance applicants build convincing evidence files specifically for their situation.
How long does it take to get a New Zealand Spouse Visa processed from India?
For the Partner of a New Zealander Resident Visa, INZ processes 80% of applications within 8 months (as of 2025). For the Partner of a Worker Work Visa, 80% are processed within 8 weeks. These are official INZ figures. Complex cases, incomplete applications, or requests for additional information will take longer. Applying with a complete, decision-ready file is the best way to stay within the standard timeframe.
My NZ Spouse Visa application was declined. Can I reapply?
Yes. If you were applying from outside New Zealand (which most Indian applicants are), you can lodge a fresh application. You cannot request a reconsideration if applying from abroad. If you were in New Zealand when declined, you can request a reconsideration within 14 days, or appeal to the Immigration and Protection Tribunal within 42 days. We read your INZ refusal decision carefully, identify every issue, and prepare a comprehensively stronger reapplication.
